Lean Leadership Training

We provide Lean leadership training to help executives understand and correctly implement strategic Lean management.

Other leadership training courses dive right into the Lean tools and present unfamiliar concepts and confusing jargon, which obscures the intent of Lean and makes it hard to understand how to implement Lean strategically. In addition, they focus on manufacturing aspects, which turns off senior managers that do not have manufacturing responsibilities, and focus heavily on Lean tactics (Lean tools) which will lead to only modest short-lived results.

As the first executive training organization to focus exclusively on Lean leadership, we have created a unique training program that is fully consistent with Lean principles and practices. It is the result of over 15 years of applied research to understand, develop, and improve methods for practicing Lean leadership.

Our Practical Lean LeadershipSM course is the simplest and most practical approach to Lean leadership available anywhere. The training consists of all original materials. There is zero redundancy with any previous Lean training you have had - including that from LEI, TBM, Simpler, or McKinsey.

Executives hire us because we keep digging to learn more and improve. Our work is consistent with Lean principles and practices in that we're never done and we're never satisfied, so we keep on working to discover new and useful information. Experts, on the other hand, possess distinctly un-Lean characteristics of achievement, infallibility, self-satisfaction, and complacency. Beware of people claiming to be experts in any aspect of Lean management.

We have trained senior managers from the following industries: healthcare, biotech, pharma, manufacturing, distribution, insurance, higher education, and state governments. Read feedback on the training from executives at a large company with nearly a decade of Lean experience.

Spend your money wisely. Our training is a better product and you will save 50% or more compared to other leading consultants/trainers.

Practical Lean LeadershipSM Training Programs

Spend your money wisely. Our training is a better product and you will save 50% or more compared to other leading consultants/trainers.

When thinking about the companies that have had significant success with Lean management, the question is: "How did they do it?" They did it through the strategic application of Lean, which consists of two major elements:

  • Enterprise-wide use of Lean management.
  • Leading the organization in a manner consistent with Lean principles and practices.

Our training focuses on the leadership aspects of Lean management. It helps you leverage your existing knowledge of Lean tools to achieve higher levels of performance in cost, quality, delivery, and growth, as well as the desired culture change.

The training is available in two versions:

  • One-day course (8 hours), typically for organizations that have more than 3 years of experience with Lean management.
  • 1.5 day course (12 hours), typically for organizations that have less than 3 years of experience with Lean management.

It is both practical and actionable, and fully consistent with Lean principles and practices. The training includes interactive discussions, break-out activities, and targeted homework assignments. Pricing is flat rate, inclusive of all training materials and related expenses.

One-Day Course (8 hours)
Morning Session - Lean Leadership Beliefs, Behaviors, and Competencies.
Detailed description of Lean leadership beliefs, behaviors, and competencies correlated to Lean principle and practices, and compared to non-Lean leadership beliefs, behaviors, and competencies.

Afternoon Session - The "Respect for People" Principle and Executive Standardized Work. A close examination of the inter-relationship between "Respect for People" and "Continuous Improvement" principles, and the rationale and structure of executive standardized work.

1.5 Day Course (12 hours)
Morning Session - The Lean Management System.
Understanding Lean as a management system and review of the common misconceptions senior managers have about Lean.

Afternoon Session - Lean Leadership Beliefs, Behaviors, and Competencies. Detailed description of Lean leadership beliefs, behaviors, and competencies correlated to Lean principle and practices, and compared to non-Lean leadership beliefs, behaviors, and competencies.

Morning Session - Kaizen, Executive Standardized Work, and Lean Metrics. Deep-level discussion of kaizen meaning, purpose, and outcomes, rationale and structure of executive standardized work, and ensuring metrics are consistent with Lean.

The training consists of all original materials. There is zero redundancy with any previous Lean training you have had - including that from LEI, TBM, Simpler, or McKinsey.

My Training Perspective

Bob Emiliani

"I wanted to create a different type of Lean leadership training experience that would be simpler to understand, more practical, and also very specific and actionable.

My training is unique because it is firmly rooted in Lean thinking - not the more common and less effective organizational or leadership behavior approaches.

I also wanted to highlight Lean principles - especially the 'Respect for People' principle, which is missing in other training programs.

The result is the simplest and most practical approach to Lean leadership available anywhere."

Comments from company presidents.

"The program that Bob put together was outstanding. Each training session was very well prepared. He gave great talks, had excellent visuals, and there was great interaction among the participants. The workbook and handouts were excellent, and the homework assignments were thought-provoking and relevant. I give the training the highest marks. What we learned is going to help us improve every aspect of our business."

"Your training was and continues to be of great value. It gave us a framework for how to work better together. Most importantly, you showed everyone that Lean would work for them. Your passion for the subject comes through in the training. You have excellent methods for communicating the information and have the ability to reach all types of learners. You left us with some great training aids and reminders, and you have shown a continuing interest in us. You have been responsible for helping this company greatly."

"The training brought attention of Lean to the forefront and brought home the importance of leading by example, but at a different level. You addressed issues of Lean that are not covered in other training, and put ordinary things in an extraordinary light. You challenged our comfort zone, and also put 'soft' issues more into a 'hard' issue realm."
